Damascus, (SANA) -- The Syrian Telecommunications Establishment (STE) plans to create new national data network (NDN) that is capable of carrying more than 1 million broadband portals, provided with 300,000 portals and ADSL technology which allow faster data transmission.
STE Director General Baker Baker said the Establishment is working on widening the current data network via installing 40,000 portals to increase its capacity to 140,000 portals placed in service, 90,000 of which are already invested.
He added that the STE is doing its best to implement the Regional Cable Network project with Jordan and Turkey.
He highlighted the STE's hard work to complete the telecommunication link with Iraq, which will provide broader band circuits and reduce internet costs, guaranteeing high-quality services.
"Building new submarine cables linking Syria with Europe is under discussion," said Baker, indicating that Syria already has three submarine cables; UGARIT cable linking Tartous in Syria and Pentaskhinos in Cyprus, Berytar fiber optic cable connecting Tartous in Syria and Beirut in Lebanon and a cable which links Syria with Egypt.
Baker added that the STE plans to shift to the next generation services which aim at providing audio/ video and internet services through a modern system, in addition to its pioneering projects in installing fiber optic cables instead of copper wiring, which would allow the delivery of multiple advanced services.
